If you are working on a One-Name Study for a Latvian surname, these are the introductory resources you will need:
- Latvian State Historical Archives website that has digital images of Latvian church books, revision lists, the 1897 Census and a growing collection of housing registers.
- Latvian newspaper website. Searchable, though not perfect since the search capabilities are as a result of OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which has its flaws, especially when it comes to the old German type.
- see if your surname is listed in the Latvian Surname Project. If it is, it will tell you some of the parishes it appears in.
As time goes on, you will also want to consult records on-site at the Latvian State Historical Archives.
